Review and Update Your Handshake Account

With the start of a new semester, it is important for you to review and update your Handshake account. To ensure you have full system functionality, update your profile with any new contact information, your GPA (needs to be included but you can keep it hidden from employers if you choose), and your career interests.  

Handshake has recently launched several new industry categories.  Go into your career interests and make sure that all of your industry interests are up to date.

Optimized Handshake Profile Checklist

Be sure that you….

• Update GPA
• Add previous education
• Add prior work experience
• Add a minimum of 5 special skills – 10 or more is ideal
• Add relevant coursework
• Update Career Interests: What type of job/internship are you looking for? How can Handshake help? What industries interest you? Which kinds of job, or job functions, interest you?
• Update Your Interests
• Under JOB HUNT make sure that you have selected “Actively looking for a job” or “Not looking for a job, but open to opportunities”
• Update “Your Journey”

Never Logged Into Handshake?

If you have never logged in, you will be prompted to complete the User Agreement.

1. Simply click on the link indicated in the pop-up and complete the agreement.
2. Be sure to “Logout” after completing the form.

New Features

This fall we launched several new features and changes to help you find job and internship opportunities within Handshake, and we have made these changes in order to reduce the number of emails you are receiving while also getting you the information that you need.

1. WFU Collections:We have created over 30 new collections of jobs and internships that will be launched over the next week.  Each collection features jobs and internships that fall under the title of that collection.  Postings will be added to the collections on a weekly basis. 
2. Improved Handshake Homepage and Feed: Handshake has invested time and money into improving the AI behind the news feed.  In order to improve the relevance of what is on your homepage and feed, please update your Career Interests.
3. Instagram & Handshake Feed Posts: We will be using these to advertise important events, information sessions, and other opportunities.  Be sure to check your Handshake feed on a regular basis and follow our Instagram account.
