It’s a field where you can truly make a difference in people’s lives, providing crucial support during challenging times. You’ll gain a deep understanding of economics, risk management, and human behavior. Many roles offer strong earning potential, especially for those with specialized skills or in sales. The industry is also evolving rapidly with new technologies like AI and big data, creating exciting opportunities for innovation. Plus, continuous learning and professional development are highly encouraged, ensuring you can grow and adapt throughout your career.

While there’s no single “right” major for an insurance career, a strong academic foundation is very helpful.

Gaining practical experience is always a smart move. Look for internships with insurance companies or agencies. Many companies offer entry-level roles in customer service or claims that can serve as excellent starting points to learn the ropes. For roles like agents or adjusters, obtaining specific state licenses is often required, which involves passing exams. Developing strong analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent communication (both written and verbal), and a customer-focused approach will be invaluable. Networking with professionals in the industry can also provide mentorship and open doors to opportunities.
